People think that acting is so competitive.
It does not have to be,
and my experience is that it isn't.
I felt as if everybody wanted to hold me up
and put the mirror in front of my face
so that I could see the successful me,
the confident me, the capable me...
and also the me that is willing to learn.
The vulnerable me that will walk into a room
and say, "I don't know."
I hate acting.
I've never taken an acting class in my life.
I can't stand being front of the camera.
But the technical theater classes
really fit in with how my brain worked.
The ability to work hands-on on something
I didn't have to be theoretical--
being able to work with your hands
and understanding base troubleshooting
is something that a lot of people have problems with.
And I credit GRCC and the time I spent in this theater
to give me the ability to learn how to troubleshoot,
to think critically of a situation,
and to attack it in the proper order,
to find the resolution the quickest.
Technical theater classes either are going to give you
the basis for how to work in a group,
because in theater, you have the directors
and you have the designers
and then you have their keys that help build all the stuff.
So, you have them understand how to work in a team.
And how decisions you make
can affect the rest of the members of the team.
