कोबरा 'कमांडो बटालियन फॉर रिजॉल्यूट एक्शन' का शॉर्टफॉर्म है।

CRPF की यह स्पेशल फोर्स गुर्रिला वॉर टैक्टिक्स और जंगल वॉरफेयर में स्पेशलाइज्ड रहती है।

इसका गठन सितंबर 2008 में नक्सलवाद की समस्या से निपटने के लिए किया गया। मिजोरम, छत्तीसगढ़ के नक्सल प्रभावित क्षेत्रों में इसने ऐसे-ऐसे मुश्किल ऑपरेशन्स को अंजाम दिया, जिनसे नक्सलवादियों की जड़ें हिल गईं।

कोबरा देश के सबसे अनुभवी और सफल लॉ एन्फोर्समेंट यूनिट्स में नंबर 1 है।

कई साल पहले कोबरा ने सारंडा (झारखंड) के घने जंगलों में 11 दिन तक बिना किसी मदद के एक बड़े ऑपरेशन को अंजाम दिया था।

कोबरा 23 किलो वजन के साथ 11 रातों तक गहन जंगल से गुजरने में समर्थ हैं।

घातक प्लाटून या घातक कमांडो के नाम से आतंकी यूं ही नहीं थर्राते हैं। वे मौत बन खामोशी से दुश्मन के इलाके में घुसते हैं और फिर अचानक धमाकों से दुश्मन को दहला कर उसका काम तमाम कर देते हैं । वे स्पेशल ऑपरेशन्स करने के लिए तैयार किए जाते हैं। 2016 में हुए सर्जिकल स्ट्राइक में उनका बहुत बड़ा योगदान था। ये कोई और नहीं बल्कि भारत के सबसे खतरनाक कमांडो फोर्सेज में से एक ‘घातक कमांडो’ हैं।

घातक कमांडो मुख्य रूप से एक ‘Shock Troop‘ यानी दुश्मन को चौंका देने वाली टुकड़ी की तरह काम करती है। इसके जवान बटालियन की सबसे अगली पंक्ति में तैनात रहते हैं। घातक प्लाटून में अमूमन 20 जवान होते हैं।

घातक कमांडो मुख्य रूप से दुश्मन के इलाकों में जाकर उनके बंकर्स, आर्टिलरी बेस, आयुध भंडार, एयरफील्ड जैसे ठिकानों पर हमला कर उन्हें नेस्तनाबूद कर दुश्मन की कमर तोड़ देते हैं। हर घातक कमांडो पैराग्लाइडिंग, तरह-तरह के हथियार चलाना, छद्म युद्ध, आमने-सामने की लड़ाई में पूरी तरह निपुण होता है।
