The ministry will work to streamline processes for ‘Ease of doing business’ for co-operatives and enable development of Multi-State Co-operatives.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has firmed up the main contours of his much-awaited ministry expansion exercise. While he is still giving final touches to details, government insiders told that the exercise would weigh in favour of youths and women, see more bureaucrats join the government and convey a wider social and geographical representation. Further, insiders said, a new Ministry of Cooperation to provide “administrative, legal and policy framework to strengthen cooperatives” will be created with the purpose of setting up “multi-state cooperatives”.

More new ministries may be created by either carving out from existing portfolios or through amalgamation of departments.
