there are two main variants of removing impurity (irtifāʿ al-ḥadath). the first is the full ablution (ġusl), in which the entire body is cleaned with water. the other variant is the partial ablution (wuḍūʾ), which involves washing the face, the lower arms, the head, and the feet with water. in the absence of water, clean soil can be used instead.
