Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله said:
ومن عقوباتها: أنها تُوقعُ الوحشةَ العظيمةَ في القلب، فيجد المذنب نفسَه مستوحشًا، قد وقعت الوحشة بينه وبيّن ربه، وبينه وبيّن الخلق، وبينه وبيّن نفسه. وكلّما كثرت الذنوب اشتدّت الوحشة
"And from the punishments of sins is that they place severe loneliness in the heart. Thereupon, the sinner finds himself lonely. Loneliness occurs between him and his Lord, and between him and the creation, and between him and himself. And whenever the sins increase, the loneliness intensifies."
