Noun clause as the object of a sentence A: How long was she t | Grammar Guy

Noun clause as the object of a sentence

A: How long was she there?
B: I don't know how long she was there.

In this example, the tense of the verb in the noun clause (how long she was there) doesn't change because the main verb (I don't know) is in the simple present.

A: When will they arrive?
B: Nobody told me when they would arrive.

However, in this example we can see that the tense of the verb in the noun clause (would arrive) has changed, and that's because the main verb (told) is in the simple past.
