2022-08-30 11:22:56 Surah Qaf, Chapter 50
The Chapter has forty four Verses and it was revealed in Mecca. The title of the Chapter is derived from the opening detached letter qaf. Similar to other Meccan Chapters, the Chapter in question treats of resurrection and an exposition of the destinies of former nations as well as those of the good and the vicious.
The Chapter opens with the opponents’ denial of resurrection and proceeds with making mention of the examples of resurrection in nature and creation.

Merits of Recitation of the Chapter
It is narrated from the Noble Prophet (S): “Whoever recites the Chapter Qaf, Allah shall alleviate the difficulties and throes of death for him.”

According to a tradition narrated from Imam Baqir (as): “One who recites the Chapter Qaf in obligatory and supererogatory prayers at all times, Allah shall increase his means of subsistence, shall give him the letter of his deeds to his right hand, and shall make facilitate his account on the Day of Judgment.”

Verses 12-14
The name of the people of Rass is attested in this Chapter and also in 25:29. Qur’anic exegets maintain that the people of Rass lived in Yamama. They had a Prophet by the name of Handalla, but they denied his Call and cast him into a well. Since the Arabic word rass denotes “well”, hence their designation ‘the people of Rass.’ Imam Sadiq (as) was inquired regarding the reason behind the torment inflicted upon the people of Rass.
He replied: “Their women contended themselves with women [i.e. they were lesbians].”
The peoples of Thamud and ‘Ad were those of Prophets Salih and Hud (as). The people of Ayka were a group of the people of Prophet Shu‘ayb (as) who lived in the woods. Their name is attested in Chapters 15 and 26.
Tubba‘ is the title of the kings of the Yemen. The people of Tubba‘ is applied to a group of the people of the Yemen who followed their kings and whose name is also attested elsewhere in the Holy Qur’an.

O God, Thou are my stores when I sorrow,
Thou are my recourse when I am deprived,
from Thee I seek aid when troubled
and with Thee is a substitute for everything gone by,
a correction for everything corrupted,
and a change from everything Thou disapprovest.
So show kindness to me with
well-being before affliction,
wealth before asking,
right conduct before misguidance;
suffice me against the burden of shame toward the servants,
give me security on the Day of Return,
and grant me excellent right guidance!

اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ عُدَّتِي إِنْ حَزِنْتُ ،
وَ أَنْتَ مُنْتَجَعِي إِنْ حُرِمْتُ ،
وَ بِكَ اسْتِغَاثَتِي إِنْ كَرِثْتُ ،

Imam Sadiq (as) said, “There is none from a heart except that there are two ears for it. Upon one of the two is a guiding Angel, and upon the other is a tempting Satan. This one instructs him and this one rebukes him. The Satan instructs him with the disobedience and the Angel rebukes him from it, and these are the Words of Allah Mighty and Majestic: When the two receivers receive, seated on the right and on the left [50:17]”.

Imam Sadiq (as): “There is none from the servants except that there
are two Angels who write down what he utters, then they raise that to two (other) Angels higher than them. So these two establish what was from the good and evil, and cast everything else.”

طُوبَى لِمَنْ ذَلَّ فِى نَفْسِهِ وَ طَابَ كَسْبُهُ وَ صَلَحَتْ سَرِيرَتُهُ وَ حَسُنَتْ خَلِيقَتُهُ وَ أَنْفَقَ الْفَضْلَ مِنْ مَالِهِ وَ أَمْسَكَ الْفَضْلَ مِنْ لِسَانِهِ وَ عَزَلَ عَنِ النَّاسِ شَرَّهُ وَ وَسِعَتْهُ السُّنَّةُ وَ لَمْ يُنْسَبْ إلَى الْبِدْعَةِ .

Blessed is the one who humbles himself, whose livelihood is pure, whose heart is chaste, whose habits are virtuous, who spends his savings (in the name of Allah), who prevents his tongue from speaking nonsense, who keeps people safe from evil, who is pleased with the (Prophet's) sunnah, and who is unconnected with innovation (in religion).
