Prime Minister, Mr. Mohammed S. Al-Sudani, met with members of the Electricity and Energy Committee in the Council of Representatives to discuss the government's plans for service and investment projects aimed at developing the energy sector in the country.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of such meetings, which aim to coordinate the efforts of the executive and parliamentary branches and achieve a common understanding of the challenges faced in various sectors, particularly the energy sector, which is vital for the advancement of the economy in all its aspects.

Mr. Al-Sudani also highlighted the government's efforts to develop a new vision for the electricity sector, including the adoption of combined cycles with high efficiency and productivity. Some of these projects have already been implemented, while work is ongoing for the rest. Additionally, the government is taking steps to collect electricity fees that have been outstanding for years, ensuring that the process is fair and transparent, and addressing suspicions of corruption that have plagued the sector in the past.

The Prime Minister stressed the importance of strengthening the oversight role and personally following up on the reports of the Electricity and Energy Committee, particularly regarding contracts and performance levels. He also reiterated his commitment to confronting corruption and taking swift measures to address any instances of misconduct.

Mr. Al-Sudani stressed the importance of finding solutions to the challenges facing the energy sector in Iraq. He emphasized the need to reform the energy sector and invest in associated gas and prevent its wastage, and to overcome any obstacles related to contracts and land allocation for solar energy projects.
