Pathophysiology:
• tear in the tunica intima of the wall of the aorta
Associations:
• hypertension: the most important risk factor
• trauma
• bicuspid aortic valve
• collagens: Marfan's syndrome, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome
- Turner's and Noonan's syndrome
• pregnancy
• syphilis
