بررسی کلمه‌ی though

کلمه‌ی though گاهی اوقات مانند although یا even though استفاده می‌شود و پس از این یک کلاز بکار می‌رود:

• Karen is coming to stay next week though I’m not sure what day she is coming.
کارن هفته‌ی دیگر می‌آید، اگرچه نمی‌دانم چه روزی می‌آید.

در این حالت، به شرط یکسان بودن فاعل دو طرف، امکان استفاده از ریداکشن هم وجود دارد و پس از though یک فریز (نه کلاز استفاده می‌شود):

• Though more expensive, the new model is safer and more efficient.

کلمه‌ی though می‌تواند به معنی however هم باشد. در این حالت، برای ترجمه باید though را به اول کلاز منتقل کنیم:

• Our team lost. It was a good game though.
تیم ما باخت، اما بازی خوبی بود.

• Expanding populations are subjecting the land to increasing pressures to provide them with food and fuel. In wet periods, the land may be able to respond to these stresses. During the dry periods that are common phenomena along the desert margins, though, the pressure on the land is often far in excess of its diminished capacity, and desertification results.
در دوره‌های مربوط، زمین ممکن است این فشار را تحمل کند، اما در دوره‌های خشکسالی که پدیده‌های شایعی هستند، فشار روی زمین بسیار بیشتر از تحمل آن است.

در کاربرد دوم گفته‌ شده برای though، استفاده از although و even though اشتباه است.
