2021-08-15 14:40:44 Iraqi President: Optimal Conditions for Country’s Next Elections Must be ensured, Elections must be free and fair

On Sunday, August 15, 2021, the President of the Republic of Iraq, Barham Salih met with the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations for Iraq, Ms. Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert.
Politics and security related-matters in Iraq were discussed during the meeting, and President Salih and UN Special Representative Plasschaert agreed it was vital to step up all the efforts to promote stability in the country and to protect citizens' security.
It was vital to create the right conditions for the next federal election, which must be held in next October, in order to ensure it was free and fair and that there was no fraud or manipulation in all the stages of the ballot, Both sides emphasized.
Participants in the meeting agreed that there will be greater confidence of the Iraqi in the credibility of elections' results.
Therefore, elections will reflect the will of the Iraqi people, and voters will guarantee their right to choose political representation without fear of fraud or manipulation, they said.
Meeting's agenda also included the discussions of the UN role in monitoring and the oversight of Iraq's next elections.

استقبل رئيس الجمهورية الدكتور برهم صالح، اليوم الأحد 15 آب 2021 في قصر السلام ببغداد، الممثلة الخاصة للأمين العام للأمم المتحدة في العراق جينين هينيس بلاسخارت.

وجرى خلال اللقاء، بحث الأوضاع السياسية والأمنية في البلاد، وضرورة تضافر الجهود في تعزيز الاستقرار في البلد وحماية أمن المواطنين.

كما جرى التأكيد على أهمية توفير الشروط اللازمة لإجراء الانتخابات المقبلة في تشرين الأول، وبما يضمن نزاهتها وعدالتها في مختلف مراحلها لتُضفي على نتائجها المصداقية والثقة لدى العراقيين، وتؤكد إرادتهم الحرة في انتخاب ممثليهم بعيداً عن الضغوط والتزوير والتلاعب، والإشارة إلى دور المراقبين الأمميين في هذا الصدد. باز کردن / نظر دهید

2021-08-14 15:32:21 Iraqi President: The Christian of Iraq, the Christian of the East Are Indigenous People of the Region, and Have Significant Contributions in Building Region's Societies

On Saturday, August 14, 2021, the President of the Republic of Iraq, Barham Salih met with His Beatitude Patriarch of Babylon for Chaldeans Cardinal, the head of the Chaldean Catholic Church, Mar Louis Raphael Sako alongside a number of Priests and Cardinals of the States of the region. The meeting was held at al-Salam Palace in Baghdad.
Iraqi President Salih emphasized that the Christian of Iraq, the Christian of the East are the indigenous people of the region. The Christians stood side by side with their brothers from all backgrounds to confront the various challenges that they have faced, he said.
They have deeply -rooted and profound their historical, civilizational, and activist contributions as they have been integral to building the region's societies, and helped craft the authentic eastern norms and traditions, the President said, while noting that it is impossible to imagine the East without Christians.
President Salih said Pope Francis' visit to Iraq was a message of humanitarian solidarity for a country that had suffered from violence and conflicts, and looks forward to bringing peace, security and stability, maintaining social cohesion as well as protecting all the components of the people.
Cardinal Sako, in turn, expressed his gratitude for President Salih's enthusiasm about resolving the issues of Iraq's Christian and his ongoing support for them.
Furthermore, he commended the President's role in removing the obstacles faced by the Christian over the past years as he hailed his unrelenting quest for peace and for establishing peaceful coexistence among all the components of Iraqi society.
