The Dragon


An evil dragon lived in a castle in the remote southern mountains. One day the monster landed in a town. The dragon commanded the people, “Give me food now, or I will eat you!”

The dragon lifted its wings so that its lungs could be completely filled with hot steam, and breathed it upon the people. A man turned into a stone statue!

The people submitted and brought food. The dragon ate all of it and left. The people sent a boy to ask for help from a wise old man. He resided in a temple. The boy told the old man about the dragon.

Then, the old man counseled the boy. “A meteor will fall in the northern sky. It will make a huge explosion. Find the meteor and bring it to me. I will use it to make a sword for you.” The boy did as the old man said.

Soon, the sword was ready. “ Use this to kill the dragon. But be careful. You must cover yourself with weeds that smell bad. That will ensure that he does not smell you,” the man said.

The boy traveled for many days to find the castle. He went to the upper level and opened a door. He could see the dragon’s tail.

It was sleeping, so the boy killed it. Then, he took the dragon’s gold and jewelry and returned to his town. The people were happy.

The Twelve Months


An awful woman lived with her daughter and stepdaughter in her household. She possessed feelings of hate for her stepdaughter, Anna. Anna worked while her stepsister did nothing.

On a cold January night, Anna’s stepmother remarked, “Your stepsister desires flowers. Go and find some.” Anna wasn’t anxious to walk through the chilled landscape. The cold air made her lungs burn.

She walked at a slow pace because of the snow. Soon she saw a group of people. It consisted of twelve men. Anna told them about the flowers. One of the man said they were the twelve months and that they would help Anna.

January walked to her and made a motion with his hand. The days of the month passed rapidly until it was February’s turn. February also made the month speed up. Then March made the sun shine and flowers grew in the field.

Anna loaded her basket with so many flowers that she could hardly lift it. Then she gave a quick but polite “ thank you” to the twelve men and returned home. She was very eager to show her stepmother all the flowers.

Back at the house, she spilled the flowers onto the table. Then she told her stepmother about the twelve men. Anna’s stepmother and stepsister went to seek the twelve months.

Their intent was to ask for gifts. They looked and looked. They became very lost and never found their way home. Anna lived happily by herself.

The Ant and the Dove


One hot day, an ant was searching for some water. After walking around for some time, she came to a spring.

To reach the spring, she had to climb up a blade of grass. While making her way up, she slipped and fell into the water.

She could have drowned if a dove up a nearby tree had not seen her. Seeing that the ant was in trouble, the dove quickly plucked a leaf and dropped it into the water near the struggling ant.

The ant moved towards the leaf and climbed up onto it. Soon, the leaf drifted to dry ground, and the ant jumped out. She was safe at last.

Just at that time, a hunter nearby was about to throw his net over the dove, hoping to trap it.

Guessing what he was about to do, the ant quickly bit him on the heel. Feeling the pain, the hunter dropped his net. The dove was quick to fly away to safety.

One good turn begets another.

The Thirsty Crow


One hot day, a thirsty crow flew all over the fields looking for water. For a long time, she could not find any. She felt very weak, almost giving up hope.

Suddenly, she saw a water jug below her. She flew straight down to see if there was any water inside. Yes, she could see some water inside the jug!

The crow tried to push her head into the jug. Sadly, she found that the neck of the jug was too narrow. Then she tried to push the jug down for the water to flow out. She found that the jug was too heavy.

The crow thought hard for a while. Then looking around her, she saw some pebbles. She suddenly had a good idea. She started picking up the pebbles one by one, dropping each into the jug. As more and more pebbles filled the jug, the water level kept rising. Soon it was high enough for the crow to drink. Her plan had worked!

If you try hard enough, you may soon find an answer to your problem.

The Wolf Fable

A shepherd boy, who watched a flock of sheep near a village, brought out the villagers three or four times by crying out, "Wolf! Wolf!" and when his neighbors came to help him, laughed at them for their pains.

The Wolf, however, did truly come at last. The Shepherd-boy, now really alarmed, shouted in an agony of terror: "Pray, do come and help me; the Wolf is killing the sheep;" but no one paid any heed to his cries, nor rendered any assistance.

The Wolf, having no cause of fear, at his leisure lacerated or destroyed the whole flock.

Moral: There is no believing a liar, even when he speaks the truth.

Be Different


One of the greatest challenges in life is being yourself in a world that's trying to make you like everyone else. For research purposes, scientists placed 5 monkeys in a cage, with a ladder in the middle and bananas on the top.

Every time a monkey went up the ladder, the scientist soaked the rest of the monkeys with cold water. After a while, whenever a monkey attempted to climb the ladder, others would beat him up. After some time, no monkey dared go up the ladder regardless of the temptation.

Scientists then decided to replace one of the monkeys. As expected, the new monkey instantly fell for the temptation and was beaten up by the rest. After several beatings, this new member learned not to climb up the ladder even though he never learned the real reason.

Then, a second monkey was brought in and the same thing happened. The first monkey participated in the beating of the second monkey. The replacements continued until only a group of 5 monkeys were left in the cage.

Even though the new group of monkeys never received a cold shower, they continued to beat up any monkey that attempted to climb the ladder.

If you asked any of the new monkeys why the beatings took place, the answer would probably be, “Well, how do I know. I guess that's how things are done around here!"

You will never influence the world if you continue doing things the way they have always been done. Be different. Create chaos. Leave an echo behind!Be Different.

Angry Snake


A carpenter went home after shutting down his workshop. When he was gone, a poisonous snake entered his workshop. The snake was hungry and hoped to find its supper lurking somewhere within. It slithered from one end to another. Finally, it bumped into an ax and got very slightly injured.

In angry and revenge, the snake bit the snake with full force. What could a snake’s bite do to the metallic ax? Instead, the snake’s mouth started bleeding. Out of fury and arrogance, the snake tried its best to strangle and kill the metallic ax - The object that was causing it the pain by wrapping itself around the ax.

The next day the carpenter opened the workshop. He found the dead snake wrapped around the blades of the ax. Here the snake did not die because of someone’s fault. But it faced these consequences merely because of its own anger and wrath.

Sometimes when angry, we try to cause harm to others. But as time passes by, we realize that we caused more harm to ourselves. It is not necessary that we react to everything. Step back and ask ourselves if the matter is really worth responding to.

Lying

One day long ago, some sailors set out to sea in their sailing ship. One of them brought his pet monkey along for the long journey.

When they were far out at sea, a terrible storm overturned their ship. Everyone fell into the sea, and the monkey was sure that he would drown. Suddenly a dolphin appeared and picked him up.

They soon reached the island and the monkey came down from the dolphin's back. The dolphin asked the monkey, "Do you know this place?"

The monkey replied, "Yes, I do. In fact, the king of the island is my best friend. Do you know that I am actually a prince?"

Knowing that no one lived on the island, the dolphin said, "Well, well, so you are a prince! Now you can be a king!" The monkey asked, "How can I be a king?"

As the dolphin started swimming away, he answered, "That is easy. As you are the only creature on this island, you will naturally be the king!"

Those who lie and boast may end up in trouble.

Learn your lesson


One night four college students were out partying late night and didn’t study for the test which was scheduled for the next day. In the morning, they thought of a plan. They made themselves look dirty with grease and dirt.

Then they went to the Dean and said they had gone out to a wedding last night and on their way back the tire of their car burst and they had to push the car all the way back. So they were in no condition to take the test.

The Dean thought for a minute and said they can have the re-test after 3 days. They thanked him and said they will be ready by that time.

On the third day, they appeared before the Dean. The Dean said that as this was a Special Condition Test, all four were required to sit in separate classrooms for the test. They all agreed as they had prepared well in the last 3 days.

The Test consisted of only 2 questions with a total of 100 Points:

1) Your Name? __________ (1 Points)
2) Which tire burst? __________ (99 Points)
Options – (a) Front Left (b) Front Right (c) Back Left (d) Back Right

Moral of the story: Take responsibility or you will learn your lesson.

Louder Than Words


Butter, Sugar, Flour. A pinch of cinnamon. “It looks delicious baby”, I turned around to see my husband behind me. “What are you making today?”

I smiled and pointed to the recipe on the counter, “Cinnamon bread? You spoil me”. I smiled again, and he placed a kiss on my bare shoulder. “How much longer do you have on these?”

I glanced at the clock, doing the math in my head. I held up 10 fingers. “Alright, I suppose I can wait”, I cocked my head at him, raising an eyebrow, “No, no, I’ll wait till you’re done. Finish your bread.”

I shook my head at him fondly, pouring the batter into the tin, “Hey”, I looked back at him, “You’re pretty”, I rolled my eyes, sprinkling the crumb topping over the batter.

As soon as I placed the tin in the oven, I felt his arms wrapping around me...
