Iraqi President Meets Spain's Ambassador: Joint International Efforts Are Needed to Address Challenges and to Alleviate Tensions in the Region
On Wednesday, August 4, 2021, the President of the Republic of Iraq, Barham Salih met with Spanish Ambassador to Iraq, Mr. Juan Jose Escobar to mark the end of his functions. The meeting was held at al-Salam Palace in Baghdad.
President Salih hailed the efforts made by the Spain's Ambassador during his assignment in Iraq. He worked tirelessly to advance the bilateral ties between Iraq and Spain, said the President. He wished him success in his next duties.
Furthermore, the Iraqi President expressed appreciation of Spain's stances to support Iraq in the war against terror which are part of the International coalition.
International cooperation is needed to meet the common challenges presented by the terror and the health crisis resulting from the spread of COVID-19, he said, while global and regional efforts should be stepped up to achieve regional stability and security and to calm tensions there.
Mr. Escobar, in turn, emphasized that his country is committed to promoting Spanish-Iraqi relations and working towards strengthening that relationship at every level.
